Being a parent is a wonderful, God given, blessing!! It is a blessing that is full of responsibility. As parents, we have the responsibility of living wisely, not for ourselves in this discussion, but also for our children. We are to be models, pointing our children to Christ, and the Truth of the Scriptures. Wise living for a parent involves the consistent use of biblical methods of discipline, as we train our children in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6). The Scriptures tell us these methods involve the use of the “rod of correction” (Proverbs 22). This rod is to be used appropriately, not abusively, within the relationship of love and care that we have for our children. Welcome to the studio and the discussion.

Proverbs 22:15- Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of correction will drive it far from him.

Proverbs 23:12-15- 12 Apply your heart to instruction, And your ears to words of knowledge. 13 Do not withhold correction from a child, For if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. 14 You shall beat him with a rod, And deliver his soul from hell.

Proverbs 13:24- He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.

Ephesians 6:1-4- Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” 4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

James 4:1 Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. 4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? 6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
