Many people, both men and women, have had some kind of contact with, and possibily are addicted to pornography.  Satan has used pornography to tempt, entice, and ensnare. It entices and ensnares with emotion, visual appeal, and false intimacy. God calls His people to flee this destroyer.

1 Corinthians 10: 12-14- “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.   13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.   14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.”

Addiction is something that can grip us, if temptation and lust are not dealt with.  A very common addiction that we see is drug or chemical addiction.  Thousands upon thousands of people are addicted to drugs.  Let’s not fool ourselves, Christians are not impervious to this type of addiction.  Temptation is present in the life of the Christian.  The options are to run (flee) or indulge.  If we are acting in obedience to God, we will run.  Welcome to the studio, as we continue the discussion on Addictions!

1 Corinthians 10:12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.   13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.   14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

Lust is something that is a temptation for us all.  Welcome to the studio, as we begin our discussion on Addictions, and the root issue of Lust.

James 4:1 Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?   2 You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask.   3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.   4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.   5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?   6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”   7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.   8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.   9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.   10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

Addictions are a serious and pervasive problem today.  In fact they are pervasive due to the fact that the root is sin, which as we know effects every area of life.  It was a pleasure to welcome Dr. Ed Welch to the show.  Dr. Welch is a counselor, faculty member and Director of the School of Biblical Counseling at CCEF and Professor of Practical Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary. He is the author of Depression: A Stubborn Darkness, Addictions: A Banquet in the Grave, Blame It On The Brain, When People Are Big and God is Small and numerous articles.  Addictions, according to Dr. Welch, can be described as a “worship disorder”.  Come on in, and listen to the discussion.
